| CD Office Space Revamped By
Julia Wilkinson This fall, returning Cavalier Daily staffers found that over the summer the newspapers offices received a much-needed makeover. Located in the basement of Newcomb Hall, the offices have been expanded, taking over the space that was previously the University game room. The renovation is the result of last years managing boards negotiations with the University to add an annex to The Cavalier Dailys increasingly cramped space. "We have a staff of 150 on up, and our office just wasnt big enough," said Mike Greenwald, editor-in-chief of The Cavalier Daily. The new space will be used for an advertising office, storage room, offices for the online staff and all of production. In addition, the computer networking and telephone lines will be rerun and upgraded, according to Cavalier Daily Business Manager Dan Cooper. The construction for the annex was completed in August, and the whole office suite was appointed with new furniture, quite a change from the ancient orange and green chairs that many alumni recall using. "It looks like a real office," said Greenwald. In addition, The Cavalier Daily will get something it has never had: a conference room. One of the front offices will be used for this purpose. In addition to financing the renovation and expansion, The Cavalier Daily is now paying rent to the University for the basement office space. "We wanted to do this; this was a mutual thing," said Greenwald, adding that the more independent the CD is, the better. "Were pretty happy with it. Its not an exorbitant rent, so its a good deal, and we can stay on Central Grounds." |
