| Life After the CD Former Advertising Sales Representative Lauren Simpson Flynn (95) recently returned from a year-long scuba diving journey around the world. Along the way she and her significant other, Paul Miller, did some freelance writing and photography about their adventures. Prior to this expedition, Flynn was employed by The New York Times as a regional sales manager located in Los Angeles. Upon returning to the United States, Paul landed a job as circulation director for USA Today in Atlanta. Lauren is enjoying some time off before jumping back into the working world. Robin Pinnel (editor-in-chief, 97-98) is now working as a publicist for the National Academy Press in Washington, D.C. and going to graduate school part-time, pursuing her masters in fiction writing from Johns Hopkins University. Former operations manager and business manager Scott Ramsey and Kim Whitesell Ramsey (lifestyles editor, 91-92) are excited to announce that their second child, Erin Lea, was born Jan. 9, 2001. Curtis Ross (news and special projects editor 90-91) writes to say that he is alive and well and living in Richmond, Va. After several years in sales technology, he has returned to his first love, writing. He is currently the Virginia editor for Kendall/Hunt Publishing Company where he signs professors to write books for their own courses and help them to develop the works in a timely manner. He spends a fair amount of time on campuses across Virginia, and is very happy to see that The Cavalier Daily is going strong. Former Graphics Editor Heidi Waters Thorsen (93) married Terry Thorsen on Apr. 29, 2000, and has (sob!) moved from Charlottesville to live in Manhattan. She says its been a big adjustment morphing from being a petroleum accountant in Charlottesville to being a housewife in the West Village, but so far, so good. After attending cooking school and working as a photo librarian at the Washington Post, Lyle Sinrod Walter (opinion editor, 90-91) earned a masters at Northwestern Universitys Medill School of Journalism. She worked as an editor at Fidelity Investments for about nine months before becoming a full-time mom to Nathan, born Jan. 6, 1999. The Walter family lived in Singapore for four months in 2000 and will move to Thailand in mid-2001. Lawrence W. (Chip) Woodward (assistant production manager, 74-75) is a librarian with the U.S. Government Printing Office and lives in Alexandria, Va. He still does some journalism related work by contributing to various professional periodicals, both articles and sometimes photographs. |
